ADVERTISEMENT IS ESSENTIAL FOR A SPORTS MAN?

faraz Yes, to some extent I believe advertisements are essential for a sportsman. As they play for the pride of the country they are regarded as public figures so it is but natural for them to go for ad campaigns, showing them sporting a product of a company. The companies and ad agencies are now cashing on sportspersons to rake up their brand values! And this trend is being given boost with such young talent blossoming and reaching their nadirs! From the azharuddin to sania mirza’s, ad has gone a long way. But the advertisements have its share of pitfalls. Excessive or overdose of ads may leave the sportsperson media savvy and a significant decline in his/ her performance in their respective sports! This has resulted in decline of top players in tennis, football, cricket, etc...The huge money and potential of earning big bucks is luring the sportsperson and ultimately result in an irreparable effect on his professional life!!!! ssrkraju I would start today's talk with an example. When we are promoted to a new class, for good books and by good authors, whom do we ask for? A teacher or a bank manager? Looks very awkward, yes it is! Why do we need to have a tennis star or a cricketer tell us to eat particular biscuits? What has our sensational star Dhoni to do with Exude battery? (Sorry to use an example) What does Ifran or John know about the brand new Mobiles? Does Viswanathan Anand get the knowledge of chess by eating Parle-G? Does Amitabh Bachan eat chocolates? I want to make it clear at the outset that they don't have anything to do with the product they advertise. They do promote the product with the publicity they have. For example, Munaf Patel not known to these industries are running to sign him. Was he using their products, a little thought would give the answer as NO. The basic challenge before any sportsperson is to master the game and be the best in his/her discipline. He needs to win and prove the talent to others by giving out his best efforts. There are more successful sports people than the cricketers we see. We can get the fact that our Indians are getting gold medals in the ongoing common wealth games. Why are they not being targeted? The reason is we pay less attention to these games. Cricket or Tennis or F1 have become a great choice of viewers. They are getting lot of money for advertisements, the players also having their chunk. If the sports personalities have influence they can come up with great messages for our Indian youth and others. I like some of them taking a large step in this direction. I don’t have any problem with them gaining huge amounts; they can spend a part of it to the society for its well-being. Indeed many do them and have set an example for all of us. I would like them to advice them that instead of advertising for some unwanted and irrelevant ads, they can start some programs/camps to entertain local talent whenever they find some time and with the help of government we can develop the game and just bring the best of country in to the limelight. Tan There are two views on this question. Are advertisement necessary for a sportsperson Should sportsperson endorse products? The country where people are mad about the game cricket, where people cannot think of any other game than cricket, yes we have to advertise our sportsperson in order that some company will sponsor them and eventually which leads to encouragement to the sportsperson. It’s very hard for an individual or group to come into limelight where cricket dominates. So we have to give a strong push to other games that people will know that there is a game other than cricket. That can be done by only ads. Coming to the second point. It’s really ridiculous to see sportsperson endorsing the products. I wonder if these people ever tried those products. And funniest part is that they cannot deliver in perfect manner as professionals deliver. Even then we will buy them because so and so used it. So and so endorsed it. Yes its true that they are not professionals as they are in their respective games. BINNY I think endorsing a product, which is Good to people, is a good thing and the sports person should go for it. We have seen many actors/sports person advertising Pan Masala/Gutkhas/Bevarages/ and other bad things, which do not do well to people. These things should be avoided or people who endorse such products should be banned from sports. Coming to excessive endorsements and shoots, these sports man's loose their focus on the Game. Govt should put up stay on giving dates for ads during a series/championship are going on. Anusha_j The advertisement of the products by sports person has increased to a large extent now a day. There are the celebrities. I don’t think its necessary. I don’t understand why these companies pay them crores of rupees. There are models, which can advertise them. And the media just focuses on the person who has achieved something at present. There are many people who are showing their talents in many other fields. Public even doesn’t know about them they are just attracted to the person whom the media popularizes much. And even the popularity of sports person is not standard. There is no one who bothers about them after their retirement. Recently we came to know about few men who achieved gold medals in their carrier are working in fields, some work shops etc. It’s a pathetic situation. They are not being repudiated now. This trend must change. satyadev Advertisements for the Sportsmen are up to some extent it is essential, The Company, which is going to advertise their products with the sports person, They Sponsor him for all the Requirements to achieve success in his Game, Lets Take an Example MRF, Addidas. is Sponsor for Sachin Tendulkar.MRF will take care of his all career about his needs. Like the Addidas provide him what ever he required for the game (in Respect of Shoes) But some of them need these Famous Sports persons to improve their products Sales. Now Advertisements for Sports persons are too much. They have to Limited and they have to concentrate on their GAME more By Advertising for Products Sports wont feel over pride about their Position. They have to be Fight for the Country...
